Orion Point's central location to campus and the city centre means you’ll never miss out on the exciting social scenes the city has to offer.
There are plenty of bars, pubs and clubs close by the residence to keep you entertained in your spared time. London Road and Bedford Place are each only a 4 minute walk from Liberty Point and have a bunch of bars all grouped together including Orange Rooms, Ninety Degrees, Revolution, Buddha Lounge and Tokyo.
Alternatively you can walk a few minutes across to Bevois Valley where you’ll find a great pub called The Rockstone where you can enjoy good food, ale & wine. Additionally, there’s Jesters, Sobar and The Hobbit all just a short walk away.
For a late night nightclub there’s always Oceana less than 20 minutes away, which has a range of student events each week and opens ‘til the early hours of the morning.
Being so close to the city centre there are raft of different places to eat catering for all different tastes, some popular favourites include; Turtle Bay, Mango Thai, Milan Italian, La Tavernetta, 7Bone Burger. There are also a large selection of national chain restaurants to enjoy in the centre, including; Nando’s, Bella Italia, Wagamama and more.
Liberty Point is located on St Mary’s Street, close to the city centre and a range of activities to keep you entertained at weekends and in your spare time.
The residence is ideally suited for students studying at The University of Southampton and Southampton Solent University. Southampton Solent University is within easy walking distance; at just 5 minutes. There is also good transport links to The University of Southampton close by, taking just 15 minutes by car and bus.
Southampton is one of the top 10 retail locations for shopping; with two indoor shopping centres, a retail park and boutique shopping there is something for everyone.
WestQuay Shopping Centre is 15 minutes’ walk from Liberty Point and has over 100 stores spread over 3 shopping levels; boasting names everyone’s heard of and a variety of well-known chain restaurants to indulge in. Bedford Place is a short walk away and has an array of small independent shops and boutiques and is hustling and bustling throughout the day and night.
The city has three cinemas dotted around showcasing all the latest movies, including the multi-screen at the Odeon at Leisure World and UGC at Ocean Village; a 6 minute drive away. The Harbour Lights Picture House is an independent cinema, at under a 10 minute drive from the residence; it’s the perfect place to catch an indie flick.
Alternatively, if you fancy the theatre instead, the Mayflower Theatre is 10 minutes’ walk away and hosts shows which include everything from ballet or panto, to opera and comedy.
The Titanic disaster had a huge impact on the people of Southampton with hundreds of people losing family members. The SeaCity Museum in the city centre is well worth a visit, and looks into the history of the ship and the crew members on board.
